Yoichi
De Yoichi distilleerderij van Nikka is nieuw in de top-10 na een excel analyse van scores in de lijst begin 2010 en omdat het een keer moest gebeuren dat er een Japanse distilleerderij in de top 10 kwam. Inmiddels zijn er voldoende Yoichi’s gescoord met een hoge tot zeer hoge waardering om een opname in de top 10 te rechtvaardigen. Yoichi is een turfrijke whisky, maar met een totaal ander smaak dan de Schotse Islay whiskies. Ze zijn helaas niet zo gemakkelijk te vinden en vrij duur, waardoor het helaas toch een beetje een curiositeit blijft. Een andere Japanse distilleerderij die dreigt de top 10 binnen te komen in Hakushu van Nikka’s aartsrivaal Suntory.
Onafhankelijke bottelingen zijn vrij zeldzaam; tot nu toe beperkt in mijn lijst tot edities van de Scotch Malt Whisky Society (!!).
Yoichi (english)
The Yoichi distillery owned by Nikka is new in the top-10 after an excel analysis of scores carried out early 2010 and because the entry of a Japanese distillery in the top-10 was bound to happen. By now a sufficient number of Yoichi’s have been awarded with high to very high scores to justify a position in the top 10. Yoichi is in most cases a heavily peated whisky, but with a very different taste compared to the Scottish Islay whiskies. They are unfortunately quite hard to find and relatively expensive, which unfortunately means it still is somewhat of a rarity. Another Japanese distillery that is threatening to enter the top 10 is Hakushu from Nikka’s archrival Suntory.
Independent Yoichi bottlings are quite rare; until now in my list only editions from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society (!!).
